Linda Petrin, CAIB, CIP Manager

Linda has been in the insurance industry for 14 years. She has been working with Murrick/Somerset for the entire time she has been in the industry. She started as a receptionist/assistant to the commercial department and worked her way up to being the Manager of Somerset Insurance. Linda has been the Manager at Somerset for just over 11 years. She has her CIP and CAIB designations. She is also the President of the Vancouver Insurance Association and the President of the Denman Mall Merchants Association, where Somerset's office is located.

 

Somerset is a very busy walk in office and Linda enjoys selling the different types of insurance her office handles. The variety and diversity of the insurance products that they sell keeps the day to day selling of insurance very interesting and challenging.

George Rickman, Insurance Advisor/Road Agent

Joined Manulife Insurance in 1981 and studied to get my Life license level 2. I also completed my LUATC course. Spent 2 years with Manulife then went into my own business as a Life Broker, specializing in life insurance and group benefits. I obtained my level 2 general insurance license in 1986, and operate as a producer in general insurance. Married for 38 years with 3 sons. Hobbies Racing go-karts, and travelling.

Mark Rickman, Insurance Advisor/Road Agent

Mark joined Somerset Insurance in 1990 just after getting his level 1 insurance license. He then went on to get his level 2 license and has been selling Auto, personal lines, commercial and travel insurance "on the road" as an outside producer for Somerset ever since.

John Chan, Insurance Advisor

John started his career as an insurance agent in 2000. Over the years, he has been serving customers with autoplan as well as doing accounting work. Recently, John was trained on personal lines insurance besides his other duties. He enjoys meeting and working with people. John joined Murrick Insurance in June 2004, and he has since transferred in January 2006 to Somerset Insurance, where he continues to enjoy his career in the insurance business.

Olexander Polishchuk, PERSONAL, COMMERCIAL LINES AND ICBC BROKER

Olexander started his insurance career in April 2005 as a personal lines and ICBC broker. He joined Somerset Insurance Services Ltd in November 2007. He is currently working as a personal and commercial lines, travel insurance and ICBC broker.

 

After emigrating from the Ukraine in 1997 with Mechanical Engineering background he was accepted at Vancouver Community College and graduated in 2000 with his English 12, Social Studies 11 and Computer Science 12. He continued his education at BCIT and in 2003 he graduated with a diploma of Technology in Computer Systems. After the graduation Olexander was working as a Web designer programmer in Victoria BC, which gave him a good background in public relations and computer systems. Duties have included working as a web-designer programmer and system database administrator.

 

Working with a network of highly skilled professionals, he is dedicated to providing high-quality advice and service that satisfy his clients' needs. Among the greatest strengths he brings to his client relationships are his knowledge, integrity and commitment to exceptional service. Olexander is helping Ukrainian & Russian Community to meet their needs for autoplan, personal and commercial lines as well as for travel insurance.

 

Olexander enjoys family time with his wife Nataliya and two children, Iryna and Anastasiya. He is an avid diver and camper. At present Olexander is working toward to obtaining his CAIB designation.

Gloria A. Murphy, CIP Owner/Partner

Gloria joined the Insurance Industry in 1971 and spent the next ten years in a variety of management roles with two of Vancouver’s largest Property & Casualty brokerage firms. In 1982 she joined her husband Floyd to establish Murrick Insurance Services Ltd. For the first five years they worked to grow the business and establish a customer base. They started buying books of business from other brokers who were either wrapping up their businesses or retiring. The first two acquisitions were in 1982 and 1987.
Since that time other books of business were acquired and other locations added. Today the group of companies includes Murrick Insurance, Somerset Insurance, Alpine Insurance, Newcombe Insurance and Killarney Insurance.

 

In 1978 Gloria received the Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada (AIIC) designation. The AIIC designation has been changed by the Insurance Institute of Canada to the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.

 

Gloria has served on the board of the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia and the National Association of Insurance Women (International). She has also taught CAIB classes for the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia.

Floyd Murphy, CFP, CLU CHFC, Certified FInancial Planner, Owner/Partner

Floyd Murphy entered the Life Insurance business in 1971, and is a founding member of The Nakamun Group. Initially based in Edmonton, he moved to Vancouver in 1974. He and his wife Gloria Murphy now own and operate several businesses in the Vancouver area, including Murrick Insurance Services Ltd.

With an extensive background in the areas of Financial, Retirement and Estate Planning, Floyd offers a Comprehensive Planning Service. This service is of particular interest to the owners and key employees of private corporations, and to people at, or approaching, retirement.

Floyd attended Mabou Consolidated High School and Acadia University in Nova Scotia. When he received his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1978, he was awarded the John A. Tory medal for attaining the highest marks in Canada that year. Floyd was awarded his Chartered Financial Consultants (CHFC) designation in 1989.

Floyd is Past President of the New Westminster Life Underwriters Association and Past President of the B.C. Mainland CLU Chapter. He served three terms as a trustee of the Canadian Institute of CLUs and CHFCs, and two terms as Chairman of the National Institute.

Floyd served on the National Board of the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for nine years, including one year as Chairman and CEO. He has chaired virtually every committee of the National Association , including Taxation and Legislation, Nominating, Education and Executive/Finance.

Floyd is recognized as one of the leading authorities in the area of comprehensive planning. During the last 25 years, he has spoken to hundreds of public and industry audiences from coast to coast. He has made presentations to such diverse groups as the Estate Planning Council of Southwestern Ontario, the Schools of Life Insurance Continuing Education at Banff, Whistler and Dalhousie University, and the National Association of Insurance Women's Regional Conference in Portland, Oregon.

Floyd has been actively involved in the community. He is Past President of the Telespeakers Toastmasters Club, Past President of the Vancouver Estate Planning Council, and is the President of the Denman Place Mall Merchants Association. He has served as a board member of Canada Place Corporation, and is currently on the Board of Vancouver Special Olympics.
