Floyd Murphy entered the Life Insurance business in 1971, and is a founding member of The Nakamun Group. Initially based in Edmonton, he moved to Vancouver in 1974. He and his wife Gloria Murphy now own and operate several businesses in the Vancouver area, including Murrick Insurance Services Ltd.
With an extensive background in the areas of Financial, Retirement and Estate Planning, Floyd offers a Comprehensive Planning Service. This service is of particular interest to the owners and key employees of private corporations, and to people at, or approaching, retirement.
Floyd attended Mabou Consolidated High School and Acadia University in Nova Scotia. When he received his Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) designation in 1978, he was awarded the John A. Tory medal for attaining the highest marks in Canada that year. Floyd was awarded his Chartered Financial Consultants (CHFC) designation in 1989.
Floyd is Past President of the New Westminster Life Underwriters Association and Past President of the B.C. Mainland CLU Chapter. He served three terms as a trustee of the Canadian Institute of CLUs and CHFCs, and two terms as Chairman of the National Institute.
Floyd served on the National Board of the Canadian Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors for nine years, including one year as Chairman and CEO. He has chaired virtually every committee of the National Association , including Taxation and Legislation, Nominating, Education and Executive/Finance.
Floyd is recognized as one of the leading authorities in the area of comprehensive planning. During the last 25 years, he has spoken to hundreds of public and industry audiences from coast to coast. He has made presentations to such diverse groups as the Estate Planning Council of Southwestern Ontario, the Schools of Life Insurance Continuing Education at Banff, Whistler and Dalhousie University, and the National Association of Insurance Women's Regional Conference in Portland, Oregon.
Floyd has been actively involved in the community. He is Past President of the Telespeakers Toastmasters Club, Past President of the Vancouver Estate Planning Council, and is the President of the Denman Place Mall Merchants Association. He has served as a board member of Canada Place Corporation, and is currently on the Board of Vancouver Special Olympics.
Gloria joined the Insurance Industry in 1971 and spent the next ten years in a variety of management roles with two of Vancouver’s largest Property & Casualty brokerage firms. In 1982 she joined her husband Floyd to establish Murrick Insurance Services Ltd. For the first five years they worked to grow the business and establish a customer base. They started buying books of business from other brokers who were either wrapping up their businesses or retiring. The first two acquisitions were in 1982 and 1987.
Since that time other books of business were acquired and other locations added. Today the group of companies includes Murrick Insurance, Somerset Insurance, Alpine Insurance, Newcombe Insurance and Killarney Insurance.
In 1978 Gloria received the Associate of the Insurance Institute of Canada (AIIC) designation. The AIIC designation has been changed by the Insurance Institute of Canada to the Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation.
Gloria has served on the board of the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia and the National Association of Insurance Women (International). She has also taught CAIB classes for the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia.
Anita started her career in the insurance industry when she started working for Murrick Insurance in October, 1997. Anita was hired as the Office/Accounting/Payroll Administrator. Prior to working at Murrick Insurance, Anita was a Property Manager for approximately 10 years, which gave her a good background in public relations, collections, payroll, and accounting.
When Anita joined Murrick in 1997, there were only two locations, Murrick Insurance at 1387 Hornby Street and Somerset Insurance at #109 – 1030 Denman Street. Since then they have acquired three more locations: Alpine Insurance in Langley, Newcombe Insurance at 41st and Cambie in Vancouver, and Killarney Insurance at 60th and Victoria in Vancouver. As the company grew her responsibilities increased and her title was changed to “General Manager”.

He graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science degree (Psychology and Economics), and completed the Canadian Securities Course with an honours designation. He has worked with Nesbitt Burns for three years and Assante for eight years.
He has also completed his life insurance licensing requirements.
Matt enjoys family time with his wife Tracy and two children, Michael and Emily. He is an avid skier, mountain biker and sailor.
Rebecca has been the manager of the Financial Planning department at Murrick Insurance since the fall of 2004.
Prior to joining the company, she received a diploma of technology in Financial Planning from BCIT.
Penny joined the Insurance Industry in 1987 as a filing clerk for Zurich Insurance. Over the past twenty-one years she has worked as a receptionist, telephone claims adjuster, claims examiner, boiler & machinery underwriter, and a commercial insurance broker.
She joined Murrick Insurance Services Ltd. in August of 2007.

Penny has served on the boards of the Insurance Adjusters Association of British Columbia, culminating as Past President in 1998; and the Insurance Institute of British Columbia, where she chaired the Operations Committee for several years.
Kelly Reynolds joined Murrick Insurance Services Ltd., in June, 2008. Kelly has over 30 years experience in the Insurance Industry. Kelly has worked in various areas including Engineering, Surety, Marketing and as a Producer. She has a strong expertise in many specialized areas including retail, hospitality, high tech, manufacturing, real estate and mining. Also a range of other commercial areas and especially international operations and sales.
Jeannie is working in the Life Division of Murrick Insurance Services Ltd. Jeannie has had an extensive career working with a number of large life insurers. This is a new environment for her – Murrick Insurance having auto/commercial/life business under one roof.

Marlene has been in the insurance business for 25 years. She has worked at Murrick for the past 12 years. Marlene does personal lines and ICBC insurance.
Harry Mai Phu Hung, CAIB, started his insurance career in July 2005 as a life insurance and a personal lines broker. He helped several Vietnamese-speaking clients meet their needs for life, autoplan, personal, and travel insurance.
Working for Murrick Insurance since Septermber 2007, he is currently working as a personal lines and ICBC broker.
Harry achieved his CAIB (Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker) designation through the Insurance Brokers Association of British Columbia in May 2008.
His interests include playing tennis, jogging and traveling.

Marion spent many years in the lumber industry. While employed in that industry she held many positions. Over the years, her duties included invoicing, accounts receivable & payable, inventory control, international customs invoices & documents, employee supervision, payroll, benefits plans records etc.
In 1992 she changed careers to the insurance industry. Marion’s duties have included working as a customer salesperson representative, data imputing & uploading data to insurance companies, invoicing, inventory control, accounts receivable & payable. Marion’s current position is accounting assistant.
Jasmine recently started working for Murrick Insurance in June 2008. Prior to working for the company, she was studying at the University of Victoria. Her studies were focused in Economics and Commerce.
